We first determine the value of f(1). We take the x-axis value of 1, go up until it touches the curve, go left and take the y-axis value of 4. (red line in the figure)
So f(f(1)) = f(4) We take the x-axis value of 4, go up until it touches the curve, go left and take the y-axis value of 5. (orange line in the figure)

We need to find f(f(1))
Let's first find the value of f(1) We know y = f(x) so, for f(1), y = f(1) f(1) is nothing but the value of y=f(x) when x is 1 Look at the below image for the blue line. We get that y = f(1) = 4

So, f(f(1)) = f(4)
Similarly, look at the green line we get f(4) = 5
So, answer will be 5. Hope it helps!
