John and Karen begin running at opposite ends of a trail until they me [#permalink]
1
Karen runs 50% faster, then if John's speed is x, that of Karen will be 1.5x. Since speed is directly proportional to distance, ratio of their distance will be

1 : 1.5 = 2 : 3

Sum of ratio = 5

John had a cramp and covered 25% of distance

Ratio of their new distance

25 : 75

1 : 3

Sum of ratio is 4

Since it is the same distance, multiply 1st case by 4

8 : 12

Then multiply 2nd case by 5

5 : 15

From this we can clearly see Karen covered 12 units in the first case and 15 in the second

Percent increase from 12 to 15

3/12 x 100 = 25%
