The overall percentage of students failing across all math classes =
0.5*0.1 + 0.3*0.2 + 0.05*0.4 + 0.15*0.2 = 0.16
Overall percentage of students failing Algebra II = 3x
where x + 3x + 0.3 + 0.5 = 1
4x = 0.2
x = 0.05
Overall percentage of students failing Algebra II = 3*0.05 = 0.15
So A is the answer
0.5*0.1 + 0.3*0.2 + 0.05*0.4 + 0.15*0.2 = 0.16
Overall percentage of students failing Algebra II = 3x
where x + 3x + 0.3 + 0.5 = 1
4x = 0.2
x = 0.05
Overall percentage of students failing Algebra II = 3*0.05 = 0.15
So A is the answer
