The rectangle of the largest area that can be inscribed inside a circle is a square. There are many proofs for this, some involving calculus, others not so esoteric.

You can also think of a circle as constraining the perimeter of an inscribed rectangle and for a given perimeter, the square has the largest area.

Because if we can prove that the area of the square is greater than or less than Quantity B, we can be sure that the area of the rectangle PQRS will also be greater than or less than Quantity B.
