try testing a few numbers:
If x is 3, x - 1 = 2. When 3 is divided by 2, the remainder is 1.
If x is 4, x - 1 = 3. When 4 is divided by 3, the remainder is 1.
If x is 5, x - 1 = 4. When 5 is divided by 4, the remainder is 1.
From the examples above, we can see that when positive integer x is divided by positive integer (x - 1), the remainder always seems to be 1.
BUT, what about when x is divided by 1?
If x is 2, x - 1 = 1. When 2 is divided by 1, the remainder is 0.
Since the remainder is not always equal to 1, aka the remainder can be 0, the relationship cannot be determined. Answer choice D.
If x is 3, x - 1 = 2. When 3 is divided by 2, the remainder is 1.
If x is 4, x - 1 = 3. When 4 is divided by 3, the remainder is 1.
If x is 5, x - 1 = 4. When 5 is divided by 4, the remainder is 1.
From the examples above, we can see that when positive integer x is divided by positive integer (x - 1), the remainder always seems to be 1.
BUT, what about when x is divided by 1?
If x is 2, x - 1 = 1. When 2 is divided by 1, the remainder is 0.

x is 1 MORE than x-1, so the remainder will always be 1 when x is divided by x-1.
You can check with some numbers 3 divided by 2 or 4 divided by 3 will always leave 1 as remainder.
Also x=(x-1)q+r, where x is dividend, x-1 is divisor, q is quotient and r is the remainder.
Now the quotient or q will be 1 as there is a difference of only 1 between them..
so x=(x-1)*1+r.....x=x-1+r...r=1
so A=B=1
