Since a = 49 and b = 59, we know that a-b ≠ 0, and we know that a+b ≠ 0
So, we have:
QUANTITY A:\(\frac{a^2-b^2}{a-b}=\frac{(a+b)(a-b)}{a-b}=a+b=49+59=108\)
QUANTITY B: \(\frac{a^2-b^2}{a+b}=\frac{(a+b)(a-b)}{a+b}=a-b=49-59=-10\)
Answer: A
