With the timer showing that almost all 11 have got this wrong, let me give an explanation why it should be D..
\(x<0<y\)..
This tells us that x is negative and y is positive, but we cannot say anything about |x| and |y|
A = -2(x+y) and B is -xy
Let us take two examples ..
(1) if |x|>|y|
Say x is -10 and y is 1...
Then -2(x+y)=-2(-10+1)=-2*-9=18=A
And B = -xy=-(-10*1)=10
So A>B
(2) if |x|=|y|
Say x is -2 and y is 2
Then A=-2(-2+2)=0 and B=-(-2*2)=4.
So A<B
Therefore different answers..
D

Multiply both sides by by -1, we get
Quantity A: 2(x+y)
Quantity B: xy
Quantity B is always less than 0 since x <0 and y >0, where as Quantity A can be greater than or less than zero dependent upon values of x and y.
Therefore, answer is D
Quantity A: 2(x+y)
Quantity B: xy
Quantity B is always less than 0 since x <0 and y >0, where as Quantity A can be greater than or less than zero dependent upon values of x and y.
Therefore, answer is D
