Kudos for the right answer and explanation
We know that: \(x + y < 180\) (since sum of all 3 angles of a triangle equals \(180^o\))
Quantity A: \(358-2(x+y)\)
Quantity B: \(180-(x+y)\)
We need to compare:
\(358-2(x+y)\) VS \(180-(x+y)\)
Adding \(2(x + y)\) to both sides:
\(358\) VS \(180 + (x+y)\)
Since \((x+y) < 180\), we have: \(180 + (x+y) < 180 + 180 = 360\)
Thus, we need to compare:
358 VS Quantity less than 360
# Quantity B here could be 359 => Quantity B is greater than Quantity A
# Quantity B here could be 358 => Quantity B is equal to Quantity A
# Quantity B here could be 357 => Quantity B is smaller than Quantity A
Thus, there is no relation

Let's start by tidying up our two quantities.
Given:
Quantity A: \(358-2(x+y)\)
Quantity B: \(180-(x+y)\)
Expand and simplify both quantities to get:
Quantity A: \(358-2x-2y\)
Quantity B: \(180-x-y\)
Add 2x, and add 2y to both quantities to get:
Quantity A: \(358\)
Quantity B: \(180+x+y\)
Subtract 180 from both quantities to get
Quantity A: \(178\)
Quantity B: \(x+y\)
From here we need only recognize that it COULD be the case that x = 89°, y = 89° (and the missing angle is 2°), in which case the two quantities are equal
Or it COULD be the case that x = 80°, y = 80° (and the missing angle is 20°), in which case Quantity A is greater
Answer: D
