Notice how this is a good question and at the same time a bad question.
The good is that it tests good algebra concepts.
The bad is that this is not a GRE question for the only reason we do have a number in A and a text in B. In the real GRE we will never see this. It will always be, in the two quantities, that A is a text or a number, and B will always be a number or a text. However, if one is a text and one is a number to compare, then the number will always be in quantity b.
That said, finding the roots of the equation we do have that
a--5=b and a-5=b
So, they are equal and we will have a-b=5
The only possible value to have 5 is a =5 and b =0
C is the answer
