Here's another approach....

Since angles on a line must add to 180°, we know that the following angle (in red) must be (180 - y)

This point, we can use the fact that angles in a triangle add to 180° to write: x° + 90° + (180 - y)° = 180°
Simplify: x + 270 - y = 180
Add y to both sides: x + 270 = y + 180
Subtract 270 from both sides: x = y - 90

Answer: C

I think this solution is a perfect fit for those who are adepts of the church of logic and do not remember the rules of the exterior angles or stuff like that
