You always have the option of calling up the on screen calculator to answer this question, but we can also solve the question quickly using some number sense.
We know the following:
\(\sqrt{9}= 3\)
\(\sqrt{16}= 4\)
\(\sqrt{25}= 5\)
Since 24 is less than 25, we know that \(\sqrt{24}\) is less than 5.
Since 12 is greater than 9, we know that \(\sqrt{12}\) is greater than 3.
So we have:
QUANTITY A: some number less than 5
QUANTITY B: (some number greater than 3) + (some number greater than 3)
Answer: B
