If you distribute the negative sign on the left side of the equation, you get -x + y = x - y.
Moving the y on the right over to the left, you get -x + 2y = x.
Moving the negative x on the left over to the right, you get 2y = 2x.
Dividing both sides by 2, you get y = x.
