ST^2 = x^2 + y^2 pythagorus theorum
Perimeter = 4ST(4 times the side of square)
p^2 = 16*ST^2
p^2/16 = st^2 = x^2+y^2
Hence both are same

Square QRST has perimeter p, which means each side of the square has length P/4.
Notice the triangle with side x and y. Since it's a right triangle, x^2 + y^2 = ST^2 (by pythagorean theorem)
ST, which is one side of the square QRST, has length P/4, so ST^2 = (P/4)^2, which is P^2/16.
