Since they travel in opposite directions, they start 420 miles apart, and they meet at the 3 hour mark, you could set up the equation:
\(x + y = 420\)
Where x = the number of miles traveled by train A and y = the number of miles traveled by train B, both after 3 hours.
After 3 hours, train A would have traveled \(75*3 = 225\) miles. It would have \(420-225 = 195\) miles left.
Therefore after 3 hours, train B would have traveled 195 miles. It would have 420-195= 225 miles left.
