Notice that $20 is equivalent to an 8% raise.
Let x = Ms. Smith's ORIGINAL earnings per week.
This means that 8% of x = 20
In other words, 0.08x = 20
So, x = 20/0.08
= 250
So, Ms. Smith's ORIGINALLY earned $250/week
With her $20 raise, her new weekly salary = $250 + $20 = $270
So, we have...
Column A: $270
Column B: $ 260

In this problem, we are asked to derive the NEW salary no OLd.
First, since the raise is $20 which is equal to 0.08 of old salary. 0.08*salary=20
OLD salary is 250. then the NEW salary is 270 (250+20).
Hence A>B
