Quantity A: Distance of the origin from the point (x, y):
\(\sqrt{x^2 + y^2}\)
Quantity B: Distance of the origin from the point (1–x, 1–y):
\(\sqrt{(1-x)^2 + (1-y)^2}\)
\(\sqrt{x^2 + 1 - 2x + y^2 + 1 - 2y}\)
Now if x and y are both 0.5, the two quantities are equal, for any other values, the quantities are not, so D is the answer.

Quantity B: Distance of the origin from the point (1–x, 1–y):
\(\sqrt{(1-x)^2 + (1-y)^2}\)
\(\sqrt{x^2 + 1 - 2x + y^2 + 1 - 2y}\)
