Let x = the number of PEOPLE in class 2
So, 1.25x = the number of PEOPLE in class 1 (since there are 25% more people in class 1 than class 2)
Let y = the number of BLOCKS stacked PER PERSON in class 2
So, 0.8y = the number of BLOCKS stacked PER PERSON in class 1 (since each person in class 1 stacks 80% as many blocks as each person in class 2)
TOTAL number of blocks stacked (per class) = (number of PEOPLE in the class)(number of BLOCKS stacked PER PERSON in the class)
TOTAL number of blocks stacked in Class 1 = (1.25x)(0.8y) = xy
TOTAL number of blocks stacked in Class 2 = (x)(y) = xy
Since each class stacked the SAME NUMBER OF BLOCKS (xy), this means each class accounted for 50% of the combined total of blocks stacked.
We get:
Quantity A: 50%
Quantity B: 50%
Answer: C
