given sequence 2x,6.1,5.7,x,2.3 and they said sequence is in decreasing order

so x<5.7 and 2x>6.1 --> x>3.05

hope this clears your doubt

Re: 2x,6.1,5.7,x,2.3 [#permalink]
Two issues:
(1) Range of a data set with unknown variables will be EQUAL or GREATER than the range of the known data points.
Here, known data points= 6.1,5.7,2.3. So the range of the known data points= 6.1-2.3=3.8.
So, the Range of this data set will be EQUAL or GREATER than 3.8. (Cross out option A,B & C)

(2) Given 5.7>x>2.3
or, 11.4>2x>4.6 [Multiplying all by 2]
In this data set, highest point= 2x (which is less than 11.40) and lowest point given=2.3
So, the range must be LESS than (11.40-2.3) i.e. 9.1 [Cross out G & H]

My answer: D,E,F
