Area of rectangle = (base)(height)
So, area of rectangle ABCD = (10)(5) = 50
Now let's calculate the area of the UNSHADED triangle DEC
Why?
Once we know the area of the UNSHADED portion, we can subtract it from 50 to get the area of the SHADED portion.
Area of triangle = (base)(height)/2
So, area of ∆DEC = (10)(5)/2 = 25
Area of SHADED portion = (Area of rectangle) - (Area of UNSHADED portion)
So, area of SHADED portion = 50 - 25
= 25
Answer: A
