IMPORTANT RULE: If two sides of a triangle have lengths A and B, then . . .
DIFFERENCE between A and B < length of third side < SUM of A and B
If we let side AC be the third side, we can write: (11 - 5) < (y - 4) < (11 + 5)
Simplify to get: 6 < y - 4 < 16
Add 4 to all sides to get: 10 < y < 20
Answer: E
