Alternatively....
\(\frac{p + 5 + p^3 (-p - 5)}{ - p - 5} = \frac{-1(-p - 5) + p^3 (-p - 5)}{ - p - 5}\)
\(= \frac{(-1 + p^3)(-p - 5) }{ - p - 5}\)
\(= -1 + p^3\)
\(= p^3 - 1\)
Answer: D
