Let D = daughter's PRESENT age
So, 4D = woman's PRESENT age (since the woman is 4 times as old as her daughter.)
IN 3 YEARS everyone will be 3 years older, so we just add 3 years to each person's PRESENT age.
So, D +3 = daughter's age IN 3 YEARS
And 4D +3 = woman's age IN 3 YEARS
In 3 years she will be 3 times as old as her daughter.
In other words, in 3 years... (woman's age) = 3(daughter's age)
So.... 4D +3 = 3(D + 3)
Expand: 4D +3 = 3D + 9
Solve, D = 6
So, the daughter's PRESENT age = 6
This means the woman's PRESENT age = (4)(6) = 24
Answer: D

Let, Daughter's Age - D
Mother's Age - 4D
In 3 years :
(W+3) = 3 (D+3)
W+3 = 3D + 9
D = 6
Daugther's present age = 6
Mother's Age = 4*6 = 24
Mother's Age - 4D
In 3 years :
(W+3) = 3 (D+3)
W+3 = 3D + 9
D = 6
Daugther's present age = 6
Mother's Age = 4*6 = 24
