Cost per person = (TOTAL cost)/(number of people)
Cost per person with 16 people
Cost per person = x/16
Cost per person with 10 people
Cost per person = x/10
How many more dollars, in terms of x, will it cost per person?
difference = x/10 - x/16 ...check the answer choices - not there.
Looks like they want us to simplify x/10 - x/16
Find a common denominator of 80 to get: x/10 - x/16 = 8x/80 + 5x/80
= 13x/80

In case you are more into choosing numbers technique. Let's assume the trip cost, x = 160, why choose a number like 160, see we have 10 and 16 here, it will be easy to calculate if you choose some number which is divided by both 10 and 16.
So, Now if there are 16 people on the trip, cost per person = 160 / 10 = 16
and if the tour consists only 10 people, cost per person = 160 / 16 = 10
The difference of costs is = 16 - 10 = 6
Now, you have five answer choices, where x is unknown, but you have chosen the value of x = 160. Plug this value on every option, and the option that yields the value of 6 after plugging the value of x = 160, is the correct answer.
Here, answer choice (E) 3x/80 = 3 * 160 / 80 = 6 (correct answer)
