Which of the following can not be the units digit of \(7^x\) if x is an integer greater than 1?
(A) 1 (B) 3 (C) 5 (D) 7 (E) 9
Alternate solution.... \(7^x = (7)(7)(7)(7)....\) Since there are no 7's in the prime factorization of \(7^x\), we can be certain that \(7^x\) is NOT divisible by 5. Since all integers with units digit 5 ARE divisible by 5, we can be certain that the correct answer is C.
