x = tens place
y = ones place
This can be written as xy or alternatively as 10x+1y
When 10x+1y multiplied by 8, we get:
80x+8y
Quick check- Pick any two digit number, e.g. 15:
rewrite it as 10+5 and multiply by 8, we get 80+40=120
Answer is (E)

The number is 10x+y so 8(10x+y)=80x+80y
Clearly the book (notice the source is always the same with these errors) has flaws
