The problem still remains we still need one more equation.

Can you share the actual source of the question?

Let x be the no. of hrs
Let y be the hourly rate
Given that x*y = 432 ➡️ 1
Also given that (x+3)*(y-2)=432 ➡️ 2
From equation 2
=> 3y-2x=6
=> y=(6+2x)/3 ➡️ 3

Substitute eq 3 in eq 1
=> x*(6+2x)/3=432
=> x^2 + 3x - 648 = 0
Solve for x
We get x = 24 hrs.

Hence option c

Shouldn't you add 3 to 24? The question wants to know how long it took Stefan to do the job. X represents how long Stefan estimated it would take. But the question notes it took him 3 hours more than estimated. Thus, 24 + 3 = 27. Answer is D.

How this equation is equal to 432. They didn't mention anything in the question.
