Re: A team of 6 workers is building a levee. If each man works at the same [#permalink]
Hi Bernt GreenlightTestPrep
If using simple ratio to calculate this, I got different answer? Does it mean we shouldn't use ratio in this instance or did I miss something? Could you help clarify? Thanks Brent
1 man = 18 hrs
6 men = 6 * 18 = 108 hrs ?

Re: A team of 6 workers is building a levee. If each man works at the same [#permalink]

Each man works at the same rate and it takes 1 man 18 hours to build a levee

Let rate of of Each Man be R and Total work done = 1 (As it is same throughout the problem)

Using, Rate * Time = Work Done
R * 18 = 1
=> R = \(\frac{1}{18}\)

How long would it take the team (of 6 workers) to build a levee?

Rate of 6 workers = 6R = 6 * \(\frac{1}{18}\) = \(\frac{1}{3}\)
Rate * Time = 1
=> \(\frac{1}{3}\) * Time = 1
=> Time = 3 hours

So, Answer will be A
Hope it helps!

Formula is Rate * Time = Work Done
=> Rate = Work Done / Time
=> Rate and Time are inversely proportional
So, you cannot use the ratio formula. You can use it like below

1 man * 18 hours = 6 men * time
=> Time = \(\frac{18}{6}\) = 3 hours

Hope it helps!
