Let x = the length and y = the width
The area of the original square is x*y
After the length increases by 10%, the new length is 1.1x
After the width decreases by 10%, the new width is 0.9y
The area of the resulting rectangle is 1.1x * 0.9y = 0.99xy
0.99xy / xy = 99%
