A sequence contains terms x, y, z, w, 0, 1, 1, 2, 3…., where every term after the second term is sum of the previous two terms. What is the value of x?
The 2nd term after w, 1, is the sum of w and 0.
1 = w + 0
w = 1
The 2nd term after z, 0, is the sum of z and w.
0 = z + w
Substitute w = 1
0 = z + 1
z = -1
The 2nd term after y, w, is the sum of y and z.
w = y + z
Substitute z = -1 and w = 1
1 = y + (-1)
y = 2
The 2nd term after x, z, is the sum of x and y.
z = x + y
Substitute z = -1 and y = 2
-1 = x + 2
x = -3
