1. Find the total number of parts
The ratio is given as Pigs : Cows : Chickens $\(=7: 8: 10\)$. Add the individual parts of the ratio together to find the total number of units:
$$
\(7+8+10=25 \text { total parts }\)
$$
2. Determine the value of one "part"
We know the total number of animals is $\(\mathbf{3 0 0}\)$. To find out how many animals represent one "part," divide the total population by the total number of parts:
$$
\(\begin{gathered}
\text { Value of one part }=\frac{300}{25} \\
300 \div 25=12
\end{gathered}\)
$$
So, each "part" in our ratio represents $\(\mathbf{1 2}\)$ animals.
3. Calculate the number of chickens
The ratio for chickens is $\(\mathbf{1 0}\)$ parts. Since we now know that one part equals 12 animals:
$$
\(\text { Number of chickens }=10 \times 12=120\)
$$
