If a = -0.3, which of the following is true? [#permalink]

\(a = -0.3\) and we need to find the relationship between a, \(a^2\) and \(a^3\)

Let's solve the problem using two methods:

Method 1: Substitution

a = -0.3
\(a^2\) = \((-0.3)^2\) = 0.09
\(a^3\) = \((-0.3)^3\) = -0.027

=> a < \(a^3\) < \(a^2\)

So, Answer will be B

Method 2: Logic

Now \(a^2\) will be positive and will be greater than a and \(a^3\)

As a is a negative fraction between -1 and 0
=> \(a^3\) will become a smaller negative number and will be greater than a
\(a^3\) = -0.027 > -0.3

=> a < \(a^3\) < \(a^2\)

So, Answer will be B
