If 5 < x < 10 and y = x + 5, what is the greatest possible integer value of x + y ?
(A) 18

answer i get was 23 because , y is 5 units more than the greatest value of x,which is 9 because 5<x<10. so y =14
max of x is 9
hence y+x should be 14 + 9 = 23.

Hi your logic is correct as greatest integer value of x is indeed 9 and y is 14. Hence x+y should be 23.
Please mention the source of the question. This is very important for us because there are many sub par institutes / material out there that claim to prepare students for GRE however fall woefully short in terms of quality.
We prefer not to waste our time on questions from such sources.

I agree, the answer should be C. If it wasn't an integer value, then if they had said decimal value rounded up, the answer might have been D.
