To calculate the greatest total increase in investment in funds between beginning and ending is to take the difference in opening and ending prices of shares for each fund and multiply that by the respective number of shares .
Fund A had 600 shares and a price difference 5, so total increase in investment for A is 3000.
Fund B had 500 shares. Total Increase is 500*4=2000
Fund C total increase is 1000*2=2000
Fund D = 300*2 =600
Fund E had no change in share price value so its total value remained unchanged.
So A had the greatest increase in investment value between opening and closing of share value.
