If, in 1830, the population density of New York was 44 people per square mile, and the area of New York has stayed relatively constant since then, approximately what was the population of New York in 1830, in millions?

Consider NY population in 1920, it was 10,000 and the population density was 217.9.
We are given the density population in 1830 to be 44 people per square mile, hence, let x be the population in 1830.
10,000 = 217.9
x = 44
Thus on cross multiplying, x= 10,000*44/217.9 = 2.01
Thus option B is correct.
