Advice on taking on an internship at a lesser-known company

Quick Question: I want to apply for MSF. I had an internship last summer in a securities trader. Now it’s my gap year. It’s hard to have an internship for a whole year in a famous financial company. If I want a 1-year internship maybe I can only go to some small securities trader. My agent suggests that I get a 1-year internship. What can I do? Which kind of schools can I apply for?
Admissionado Answer: The prestige of the internship matters significantly, and like you said, most internships at prestigious firms are not a year long. If you can gain an internship at a top firm, I’d do that – it will be more impressive than a longer internship at a lesser-known company. There is also no reason why you can’t do 2 internships between now & when you apply to help you gain more experience. In terms of where to apply, as long as your GPA & GRE meet or ideally exceed a school’s average you should be competitive there!
