To find the intensity at the end of interval 8, we can track the changes step-by-step based on the provided rules.

Step-by-Step Calculation
The intensity starts at S at interval 0.
- Odd-numbered intervals (1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th): Intensity decreases by 20%, which is multiplying by 0.8 .
- Even-numbered intervals (2nd, 4th, 6th): Intensity increases by 20 %, which is multiplying by 1.2 .
- Interval 8: Intensity increases by 20 % (multiplying by 1.2 ) and then an additional 10 % on top of that. An increase of 10 % is multiplying by 1.1 . Thus, the total multiplier for interval 8 is \(1.2 \times 1.1=1.32\).

Now, let's group these operations:

\(\begin{tabular}{|l|l|l|}
\hline Interval & Operation & Resulting Multiplier \\
\hline 1st \& 2nd & 0.8 \times 1.2 & 0.96 \\
\hline 3rd \& 4th & 0.8 \times 1.2 & 0.96 \\
\hline 5th \& 6th & 0.8 \times 1.2 & 0.96 \\
\hline 7th & Decrease by 20% & 0.8 \\
\hline 8th & Increase by 20% + 10% & 1.32 \\
\hline
\end{tabular}\)

Combining these, the intensity at the end of interval 8 is:

\(\begin{gathered}
S \times(0.96) \times(0.96) \times(0.96) \times(0.8) \times(1.32) \\
S \times\left(0.96^3\right) \times(0.8 \times 1.32)
\end{gathered}\)

Since \(0.8 \times 1.32=1.056\) :

\(S \times\left(0.96^3\right) \times(1.056)\)

Comparing this to the given choices:
- A. \(\left(0.96^3\right)(1.32) S \)
- B. \(\left(0.96^4\right) S \)
- C. \(\left(0.96^3\right)(1.056) S \)
- D. \((0.8)(1.1)\left(0.96^3\right) S \)
- E. \(\left(0.96^4\right)(1.1) S \)

The correct representation is \(\mathbf{C}\) .

I know that it cannot have 2 answers.
But isn't both option C and option E are same?
Isn't anyone between C and E can be the answer?
