corals eject the mutualistic and photosynthesizing algae called zooxanthellae, with which they exchange benefits and upon which their very existence relies.

(A) the loss of zooxanthellae upsets the delicate balance of reef ecosystems.
(B) zooxanthellae exist only to ensure the existence of coral.
(C) coral and zooxanthellae are interdependent organisms.
(D) zooxanthellae are the only source of defenses against external assault.
(E) zooxanthellae provide protection against certain types of harmful sediment.

C is the answer

For question 3:
Option choice A: too broad the ecosystem also contains fish and fishing also upsets the delicate balance of life
Option choice B: here only is the keyword they are mutualistic so incorrect
Option choice C: this can be an answer so skip
Option choice D: here also only is the keyword only is too extreme to say to probably not correct
Option choice E: the argument is correct but this is not the main reason for them to exist and so not neccesary

So C is the answer
