Nice rule: 1/(a/b) = b/a
For example, 1/(3/4) = 4/3
Given:
QUANTITY A: x + 1 + 1/x
QUANTITY B: y + 1 + 1/y
Since we're told that x = 1/y, we can replace x with 1/y to get:
QUANTITY A: 1/y + 1 + 1/(1/y)
QUANTITY B: y + 1 + 1/y
Simplify Quantity A to get:
QUANTITY A: 1/y + 1 + y/1
QUANTITY B: y + 1 + 1/y
Simplify Quantity A (again!) to get:
QUANTITY A: 1/y + 1 + y
QUANTITY B: y + 1 + 1/y
Answer: C
