Reading Princeton GRE book I stuck witch such a question 15^15-15^14 compare to 15^14(14) - 1
They suggested as a solution to apply factorization (in the origin, “Quantity A can be factored”) to 15^15-15^14. Their solution looks like 15^15-15^14 = 15^14(15-1)
The answer is 15^14(15-1) > 15^14(15-1)-1
How did they do it? Here's my example following thier's formula: 3^5-3^4!=3^4(5-1)
243-81!=324
Can anyone explain how they factorized the statement?

I think the correct formula is x^y - x^z = x^z(x-1)
If I substitute both of these expressions I'll get the correct answers:
3^5-3^4=3^4(3-1)
15^15-15^14 = 15^14(15-1)
If I substitute both of these expressions I'll get the correct answers:
3^5-3^4=3^4(3-1)
15^15-15^14 = 15^14(15-1)
