The length of the base of the box will be $\(16 \times 2 \mathrm{r}=32\)$ inches (Using $\(\mathrm{r}=1\)$ inch) and the breadth of the box will be the diameter of the cans $\(=2 \mathrm{r}=2\)$ inch
Finally, the area of the base of the box will be Length $\(\times\)$ Breadth $\(=32 \times 2=64\)$ square inches.
Hence the answer is (C).
