We can use the fact that (a - b)/c = a/c + b/c
So, (4^13 - 4^12)/(4^11) = (4^13)/(4^11) - (4^12)/(4^11)
= 4^2 - 4^1 [after applying the rules for dividing powers]
= 16 - 4
= 12
Answer: D
