Let’s give a close look at this test. Two areas primarily get tested – Quant and Verbal. The test has 5 Sections (4 are scored and one is experimental), so its like 2 Quant sections and 2 Verbal sections and followed by a quant or a verbal section and out of which the Prep software picks any 2 quant sections and any 2 verbal sections (which one is experimental remains undisclosed). With an AWA section of 1 hr. this long test is to be completed in 3 Hrs. and 45 minutes.
It’s a marathon test that puts you through a real roller coaster ride. The test is Section adaptive so most likely a good work done in the 1st section of a given area is most likely to be followed by a more challenging section. BUT all these are known facts, what UNKNOWN is HOW TO CRACK GRE General.
Then why even a very well-done prep may lead to a very average performance (I have seen multiple students succumb and addressed this topic many times in my class). Here is my answer to that -
1. Prepare from the correct material on that reflects the real test (at IVY GRE Verbal we only dig deep into the REAL GRE questions).
2. Reach out to the mentor who has himself or herself aced the test and is eager to handhold and pass on his or her success DNA.
3. Do a smart prep, not a prep where you were plodding hard but with no clear objective. The exam doesn’t look for a marathon prep but an agile Sprint.
4. Do not procrastinate, set a target beforehand, your prep duration should not be beyond 6 months (well on the other hand a fortnight prep is also foolhardy). If someone sells you this strategy that it’s a month’s affair, ask him or her to demonstrate this nonsensical advise.
5. Take on as many Micro level test as you can, check your pace and do a smart analysis. If you can’t do it, take assistance from your mentor (at IVY GRE Verbal we provide more than 100 Tests of various lengths keeping this very objective in mind).
