To solve this problem, we can use the formula distance = rate × time.
Let t be the number of hours it takes for the trains to meet after the second train leaves Tokyo.
The distance traveled by the first train in t hours is:
d1 = 240t
The distance traveled by the second train in t – 10/60 hours (or t – 1/6 hours) is:
d2 = 160(t – 1/6)
Since the two distances add up to the total distance between Tokyo and Kyoto, we have:
240t + 160(t – 1/6) = 300
Simplifying this equation, we get:
400t – 80 = 180
400t = 260
t = 13/20 hours = 39 minutes
Therefore, the two trains will meet 39 minutes after the second train leaves Tokyo, or at 12:49pm.
The answer is (B).
