The first \(\frac{1}{2}\) mile costs \(\$ 0.85\).
Remaining cost: \($8.85 - $0.85 = $8.00\).
Number of additional \(\frac{1}{2}\)-mile segments: \($ 8.00 \div $ 0.25=32\).
Total \(\frac{1}{2}\)-mile segments: \(1+32=33\).
Distance: \(33 \times 1 / 2=16.5\) miles, which is greater than 16 .
