The ratio of sugar to flour is 1/5 to 1, or 1 to 5. Therefore, the ratio of sugar to flour to combined mix is 1 : 5 : 6. You can now use a proportion to determine the number of cups of sugar in a 2-cup mix: 1 cup of sugar is to 6 cups of mix (this is the general proportion), as x cups of sugar are to 2 cups of mix (this proportion is composed of the actual amounts used): 1/6=x/2 so 6x = 2 and x = 1/3.
