A picket fence is composed of x pickets, each of which is \(\frac{1}{2}\) inch wide. If there are six inches of space between each pair of pickets, which of the following represents the length of the fence in feet?
A. \(\frac{13}{2} x\)
B. \(\frac{13}{2} x - 6\)
C. \(\frac{13}{24} x\)
D. \(\frac{13x + 1}{24}\)
E. \(\frac{13x - 12}{24}\)
Here the number of fences will be = 6 * (x - 1)
so,
\(6 * (x - 1) + \frac{1}{2} * x = 6x - 6 + \frac{x}{2} = \frac{13x - 12}{2} inches = \frac{13x - 12}{24} feet\)
** It can also be solved by assuming any value for x, and then compare with the answer the result will be same
