I started by counting the number of vertical bars. There are 11 which is an odd number. So we know the median will be the 6th number when all bars are ranked in ascending order.
So I tried to mentally rank the bars. I started by taking the smallest bar (it was year 1991). This is bar n°1. Then I took the bar that was a little bit bigger, that was bar of year 1990. This is bar n°2.
Then I took the one a bit higher, that's 1992 and so on... Till bar n°6 which is year 1994 and corresponds to around 310,000. This is the median.
