Quick Question: Some universities ask in their application for the other universities you are applying to. How does this affect the application?Quick Answer: Aha!!! Now, theoretically, the schools are not supposed to use this info against you, and anyway, the argument that "they invite the strong candidates because they want them to come" is true, but at the same time in a poker game you don't want to reveal all your cards at the beginning.
Be wise and selective when writing which schools you are applying to. In general, avoid writing down a lot of schools which are obviously better than the school you are applying to (i.e. if you are applying to UCLA don't write Stanford on your list). The logic is based on the schools' interest to keep a high yield, and they know that if you will get into Stanford there's not a snowball's chance in hell you will go to UCLA, and may not accept.
As far as the ethics of the above, it's a little bit like "pleading the fifth", and not incriminating yourself needlessly...
