Because of the word 'although', one would prefer to think that the two blanks are opposite, preferable the first blank being a positive word and the second blank a negative. But in the second part of the sentence the fact that she is actually very 'reserved' already shows that the shift in idea had happened. 'ever truly to be' means that there is a shift again making the second blank also a positive word.
