Time= distance/speed
d/40+d/60=5d/120
average speed is 2d/5d/120 =48

second approach is to use weighted avergae
sum up the two speeds 60+40=100/2=50
However the first stretch is faster than the second one and it pulls down the overall speed to less than 50
